We are a 501(c)3 non profit bringing yoga and mindfulness classes to youth experiencing homelessness, poverty, abuse, addiction, trauma and behavioral challenges.Through our training and reach, we help them create space in their life to make different choices and move toward a life that is inspired, safe and joyful.

Area teachers learn to see trauma behind students' actions

"Kids who are affected by trauma react differently. Their brains develop and are wired differently from children who have not dealt with trauma. Six schools in Central Illinois are part of a pilot project in trauma-informed schools, helping not only teachers and administrators, but all adults who work with kids, to see through a “trauma-informed lens,” as it's known. Story Stretchers program tailored to Steamboat Springs toddler yogis

“I worked with kids and yoga in NYC schools,” said Handel, a Columbus Public Schools graduate. “I saw very positive things happen there. Some kids bring a lot of trauma in with them. When I moved back to Columbus [for her curriculum job], I knew that getting kids access to yoga in schools would be my passion project. Columbus is a great city, but I realized as I was growing up here that not every kid had access to things, like BalletMet classes, that I did. Refugee Youth Traumatized by War: Overwhelmed, Understudied - Al-Fanar...

As we closely watch unfolding events in the world, we tend to overlook how these will affect our youth, our future.

"Golan Shahar, a clinical-health psychology professor at Ben-Gurion University in Israel, and other scientists studying trauma say the roots of behavior change are biological: “The brain develops very slowly over the first two decades of life, especially the part of the brain in charge of control and decision. Stress adversely impacts this development. Kids in conflicts are under enormous stress.'” Research with refugee children is scarce, but what research there is shows a strong need for early intervention, and a risk of perpetuating a cycle...
